MCH ordered the 5 tavern pies at around 6:50pm or a minute or two after that. I left there just after 8pm and no sign of the pizza at that point. I get it though...the place was packed. BUT...we did mention to the server something like "hey, we don't need all 5 at once...feel free to bring them as they come available." And what proceeded from there was seeing the guests at the table next to us seated after we'd ordered, and then get their tavern pizzas well in advance of ours arriving. This was the ashes in my mouth with missing the pizza outright. I did order their "English pub beer" on nitro and that was pretty good.Adam Younghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06813720922743356851noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22317864.post-22222504461726209572023-09-29T08:18:52.957-05:002023-09-29T08:18:52.957-05:00Marla Collins' Husband offered to accompany me...Marla Collins' Husband offered to accompany me on a future Tuesday, and based on the reports from him and the reputed gigachad who shone the spotlight on their once-per-week specialty a mere 7 days before our arrival, I think I will need to take him up on that.Adam Younghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06813720922743356851noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22317864.post-49814848019057312422022-03-31T19:21:15.436-05:002022-03-31T19:21:15.436-05:00La pizza est tres bien! I nearly got trapped out there due to the COVID provisions in effect at the time...getting back to icy Chicago and eating shitty pizza in my car while I Zoom'ed the group was not as bad as it would normally sound. Plus, I drove over to Mikerphone and drank the award-winning barrel-aged stouts they happened to have on tap, so there was that. As the reviewer notes, the crust was just outstanding. I would eat it with butter. I enjoyed most of the toppings as well. I thought the pepperoni was packed with delicious flavor and cooked perfectly. The mushrooms with a little spice were my favorite. However, the sausage and "giardiniera" was disappointing and bland. I give the pizza an 8.7.

Somehow, one lonely slice was left uneaten, and it was sad it couldn't be biked home to Phred. The amount of oil on the giardiniera pizza will make you faint if you are one who likes to dab a paper towel to soak up excess grease before consumption (not me, of course). Great flavor and salt level. The toppings were all great. My favorites were the Risk Manager, because that nice dose of honey worked so well with the spicy salami. And the Hot Daisy. I am a sucker for simplicity and spice, and the sauce had such a nice smooth heat in the background of a fresh and flavorful tomato sauce. (But yeah, it made my seven-year-old cry.) The mushrooms on the Funghi were also outstanding and perfectly cooked and flavored with balsamic.
